eBay Home Business

eBay home business could be a good way to earn enough money to trade in that cubicle for a successful online business. Here are some things you need to know.

Secret of Success

To have a successful eBay home business, you must have two things: A unique product and a competitive price. If the item can be easily found at Wal Mart, you're not as likely to sell it online. So look for and find items that are highly unusual, such as things associated with a unique hobby. Are you crazy about bats? Then how about selling bat house kits, along with bat detectors and bat key chains.

Find a Niche

You will need to find an area of interest, or niche for your eBay home business. The more narrow the niche, the more likely search engines will find your store and the more traffic will come your way. For example, you will be better off limiting your eBay home business to Greek decor rather than home decorations.

How to Sell Competitively

In order to make a fair profit for the work you put into your eBay home business, you will need to sell your items about 15-25 percent higher than you bought them. For example, if you buy bat key chains for $1 apiece, you will need to sell them for between $1.15 to $1.25 each to make enough of a profit to survive.

But your prices must also be competitive with other online businesses selling the same thing. That means you will have to find items at a wholesale - or discounted - price. Typically to get items at a wholesale price, you must buy them in volume.

Sales License Required

But, you will not be able to purchase items at a wholesale price unless you have a sales license. Before you get that sales license, you will need to incorporate your business.

How to Find Wholesale

Although I usually do recommend using a search engine to find things, this is one time when you won't find items for sale at wholesale prices by typing the word wholesale into your search engine. That's because if you do type in the word wholesale, you will find a lot of scam organizations out there, promising wholesale prices that really aren't.

Instead, you can either find products through a great company called Worldwide Brands or through your own research. Find products you think you would like to sell and then contact the company's sales department. Ask for a list of manufacturer's representatives and then call each one to find a representative that will work with you. Being polite and professional is the key to finding a representative willing to work with you.
