Homesteading Lifestyle

Homesteading lifestyle is a way of life today and no longer just a way to earn free land from the government. Homesteading is a phrase that means so much more than what it did more than a century ago when the term was previously used.

What it Used to Mean

In the past, homesteading was a legal term that meant earning your land by proving to the government you could live on it for a certain number of years. While it is still possible to earn your land by living on it in some of the less populated areas, the phrase homesteading lifestyle has taken on a new definition in recent years. It is pursuing self-sufficient living.

What it Means Today

Homesteading nowadays means a way of living rather than earning free land. It is the art of returning to a simpler lifestyle and getting back to the basics.

Closer Connection to Your Food

The homesteading lifestyle includes growing your own food rather than constantly running to the grocery store, using techniques such as learning how to garden, canning, keeping bees, and raising chickens and pigs as well as your own beef. It is even raising turkeys and goats for meat and profit.

Being Prepared

The homesteading lifestyle means being ready for whatever lies ahead, whether it's a power outage, the collapse of the economy or simply severe weather that closes the roads for several days. By putting food by and having extra goods stored for emergencies, you can be ready for the worst. (Learn how to be prepared by clicking here).

A Simpler Way of Living

For many, the homesteading lifestyle also a way to free from the nine to five office routine. You may have been raised with the notion that taking a daily commute to an office and then sitting in a cubicle forty days a week is the only way to live, but it's not. Through techniques such as raising and storing our own food, as well as cutting back on utility bills by living more off grid, our costs are lower and we can eventually, break free of the nine to five routine.

A Healthier Lifestyle

By learning to garden using organic gardening techniques, baking our own bread and cooking many foods from scratch as well as raising our own fresh eggs, chicken, ham and beef, we are eating far better and providing our bodies with the true nourishment they need. The fresh air and exercise farm chores provide also make for healthier living.

Greater Security

The more self reliance skills you acquire, the more secure your future will look. You may lose your job, but if you own your patch of land, you can always grow your own food. Learn how to live off the grid, and you will always have a power source, even if the nearby power grid breaks down.
