The KitchenAid Mixer
Essential For Homesteading

A KitchenAid mixer is essential when you start making bread on a regular basis.

I talked my wonderful husband into buying me one for Christmas two years ago, and have been using it almost every day since.

If you plan to make breads, cakes, muffins or anything else with freshly ground flour, you really need a KitchenAid mixer.

They're the most sturdy, reliable mixers out there. Trust me on this one. You'll burn the motor out of a regular beater pretty quickly the first couple of times you try to make whole wheat bread or pizza dough. Only a KitchenAid mixer can stand up to the job. I got my KitchenAid mixer in the standard white color. But now you can get them in a wide range of colors, including almond, black, blue willow, caviar and cinnamon.

The 5-qt. Artisan Series Stand Mixer (such as the ones pictured here) has a 325-watt motor and a heavy-duty transmission so that it can mix heavy bread dough, something you definitely need when you start grinding your own wheat.

Plus, the unique thing about the KitchenAid mixer is its unique mixing action - the beater moves clockwise while the shaft moves counterclockwise, so that the beater is able to reach every area it mixes. The mixer features 10 speeds from a very high to a very low stir. I truly love this mixer and wouldn't be without it. As far as I'm concerned, it's an essential homesteading tool.
KitchenAid 6-qt. Professional 600 Series Stand Mixer, Nickel Pearl
If you're looking for a mixer with lots more power, the Professional 600 Series is the most powerful stand mixer KitchenAid makes. This is for the homesteader who needs to make a lot of bread.

Do you have a large family? Or are you thinking of making bread as a part-time home business? Then this mixer - with its 575-watt motor has the extra power you need.
