Lean To Greenhouse Kits
Lean to greenhouse kits are a great way for the do-it-yourselfer to build a greenhouse without a lot of carpentry or construction skills.
So what is a lean to greenhouse?
In reality, it's half a greenhouse, or a greenhouse that has been split in half lengthwise and then attached to the side of another building, typically your home.
If you don't have much space, or if you have limited funds, a lean to greenhouse could be a great option to consider.
Because it is only half a greenhouse, you use roughly half the materials you would with a full greenhouse for a lower cost.
Frugal Benefits
A lean to greenhouse also means you won't have to ship in electricity, heat and water, cutting down on those costs.
Add your greenhouse to an area that already has a faucet and electrical outlet, and you're good to go.
Here are some things to keep in mind when considering purchasing one of these lean to greenhouse kits:

It's always preferable to attach your lean to greenhouse to the area where a side or back door is, so that your greenhouse can borrow warmth from the house, and the solar energy can return heat to the house on a sunny day.
If a doorway is not available, a window will also work.
Also, you will want your greenhouse to face the south to get the best advantage of the sun's rays in the winter months.
The Disadvantage
You may find it difficult to properly seal off the space where the greenhouse attaches to your home, which means water is likely to seep into the greenhouse along that wall.
Also, because the lean-to greenhouse is half the size of a regular greenhouse, you will have less space to work in.
Keep in Mind
When installing lean to greenhouse kits, carefully consider where you plan to install your greenhouse.
Look at the trees growing in your yard, and take into account any smaller trees that could likely become mighty shade producers in a few years.
If you don't want to get rid of the tree, then move the greenhouse.
Also check the building codes in your areas to see if you need a permit for a lean to structure.
If you plan on having powered vents, fans or heaters in your greenhouse, make sure your electricity service will provide the power draw you need.
