Stress Relief Tips

Stress relief tips like the ones listed here will help you deal with whatever crisis - large or small - that life throws at you. Aromatherapy supplies

Your work, the holidays, whiny kids - all of these lead to stress which can weaken your immune system and lead to illness. But the following stress relief tips will help ease that tension:

Kick Back and Have a Cuppa

Of tea, that is. Instead of that cup of coffee, reach for a mug of chamomile. If you feel you must have caffeine, drink black tea, a drink loaded with antioxidants that can actually wipe out cold and flu viruses on contact.

Better still, drink a good herbal tea, such as catnip or chamomile tea, both available in health food stores and one of the best stress relief tips out there. Catnip is an effective anti-stress herb that also causes drowsiness, while chamomile tea is a good nerve tonic that soothes the digestive tract and helps you to sleep.

Identify the Stress

Do you get stressed out visiting relatives? Then give it some thought and figure out why. Is it because your Aunt Tilly is so critical?

One of the best stress relief tips is to think abut the source and then eliminate it. No, you can’t get rid of your aunt Tilly without going to jail for a long, long time, but you can limit the amount of time you spend with her.

Exercise

One of the simplest and yet most powerful stress relief tips: Take a 20 minute walk every day. Not only will the fresh air and exercise invigorate you, it will also give you some alone time to de-stress.

Eat Right

Stress does all kinds of scary things to you, including releasing dangerous free radicals into your body (think cancer - yech!), so give your body the best possible defense during these stressful times by eating plenty of raw fruits and vegetables. These not only supply valuable vitamins and minerals, but they also have lots of flavonoids – wonderful compounds that scavenge and neutralize those nasty free radicals. So include lots of raw broccoli, cauliflower and carrot sticks at your next family gathering to strengthen your body during those Aunt Tilly episodes.

Rescue Remedy

Aromatherapy supplies Bach’s Rescue Remedy is one of the most powerful stress-reducing formulas out there. Developed in the 1930’s it's a safe, non-addictive formula that temporarily relieves stress. Even the medical community is starting to take notice of it. It won’t solve a long-term stressful situation, but it’s a great help in those high-stress moments.

Don't Forget the Essential Oils

These are marvelously powerful and can do wonders for relieving stress. Never apply pure essential oils to your skin. Instead, dilute 20 drops of the essential oil in a cup of jojoba oil. Then apply the mixture to your skin. The oils will be absorbed in your bloodstream and providing calming relief. Ylang ylang will help you relax and promotes happiness. If you are agitated, geranium will soothe those nerves and relieve irritability, and lavender is both relaxing and good for insomnia.

Take Your Vitamins

Take good quality Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Beta-carotene and Selenium to reduce the damage caused by those nasty free radicals.

Soak Your Feet

Aromatherapy supplies This is one of those little-known stress relief tips. Fill a mason jar or other container with Epsom salts and then add 20 drops of geranium, ylang ylang or lavender essential oils (see above). Close the container and shake it well. Shake it every day for two weeks and you will have marvelous, relaxing bath salts. Add them to a small tub of hot water and soak your feet. It will do wonders for your nerves, calm you and help you sleep.

Pray

Prayer is a powerful way to reduce stress, and again, it's one of those stress relief tips that are overlooked way too often. Over the years, my husband and I have found that taking five minutes each morning to pray together has done wonders to reduce tension and fighting. This is one of the best stress relief tips out there. Five minutes of prayer prevention will reduce hours of stressed-out screaming later.

Clean As You Go

Clutter is a huge contributor of stress, and eliminating that clutter is one of the best stress relief tips out there. And while you feel you don’t have time to clean the entire house, you could take time to pick up a few items. On your way to the kitchen, pick up a few dirty dishes. Then on your way to the bedroom, pick up some socks. By the end of the day, you’ll be amazed at how less cluttered the house looks and how less stressed you are.

Make a List

Making lists are one of the most effective stress relief tips and are as nearby as that piece of paper and pen. Santa’s not the only one who should be making it and checking it twice. Trying to remember all the things you need to get done can be tremendously stressful and a source of anxiety. Take action instead. Write down all the things you need to get done and check them off one by one. Every time you cross something off your list, you’ll have a wonderful feeling of accomplishment and the reassurance that things are getting done.

Stay Away From Processed Foods

I'm going to re-emphasize the good food tip one more time. Processed foods, artificial sweeteners, carbonated soft drinks, fried foods and junk food put stress on your system and weaken your immune system. Instead, keep dried fruits and nuts, along with vitamin-enhanced bottled water in your car. Then when you’re stressed-out and starving you’ll be less tempted to stop at a fast-food place.
