Kensington Thornhill homestead
by Anne Thornhill
I have a young Golden Delicious apple tree that starts out in the spring with 25 baby apples that something eats and I wind up with 3 to 5 in the fall. I harvested 70 pounds of paste tomatoes last summer and canned 10 jars of sauce. I still have 2 jars left and it is better in flavor than the most pricey store bought jar! I also grew sweet potatoes for the first time last year. Of course, I also grew peppers and squash. I am trying to grow onions, peas, carrots, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. I only have to feed myself, but I have had enough veggies to share with neighbors and family. I am still trying to increase my homegrown veggies and become less dependent on the grocery store. I am doing great on tomato sauce so far!
