My Struggle

by David Rodriguez
(AmarilloTx)

I have just recently gotten involved in urban homesteading. I have chickens, ducks, rabbits, and Nigerian milk goats. I love all of my animals, and they all make me really happy.

This year however I am starting my veggie garden. I don't know why, but I decided to start with animals and then once I had mastered them, I would then move on to gardening.

I am currently setting a goal to raise at least 1,500 lbs of produce from my garden. I am also going to have a mini orchard of about 12 trees. I am learning more and more everyday from all the people around me.

For me, I am in love with the notion of giving more than I take. I am feeding all of the bums around my neighborhood egg salad and they just love it. God has given me a passion to truly feed His people.

I know that with more work and learning that I will be able to really make my vision come to pass. I hope that I haven't taken off more than I can chew!!!

You are doing good !

You are doing something wonderful and that is great! I highly doubt you have bitten off more than you can chew since it seems your are truly giving from you heart. I wish my best to you and those "bums" you're feeding. I know you didn't mean any disrespect by using that term. Continue on my friend. You're are doing good!

A little more considerate?

It's a great thing you are doing but you may want to come up with a less degrading word than bums. How about homeless person or down on their luck or even disadvantaged. Everyone deserves some respect as a fellow human being!
