Corn and squash outside my door

Corn and squash outside my door

We have a small plot which is mostly house but we have managed to grow our own food - from corn and potatoes to herbs and lettuce, even fruits like strawberries in baskets and passion fruit on a trellis - for almost 2 years now.

We also have 6 chickens whom we delight in having.

It is a bit tricky to work out how to grow in a small space to get maximum yield but once you see grass as a luxury its not too hard to get rid of.

Then there is cooking from scratch with wholefoods, saving water, making bread, canning and preserving, making compost and living simply...so much we can do if we put our minds to it!

You can see more about our homestead here.
